In its 19 year history, this is the first time that overseas Chinese have been appointed to join the committee of the Chinese Overseas Exchange Association (COEA).
The COEA is a subsidiary organisation of the Overseas Chinese Affairs Office of The State Council. Established in November of 1990, the committee is made of persons from all professions with a remit to liaise with overseas Chinese and their associations; to establish friendships; and develop exchange and co-operation opportunities particularly in the areas of economic trade, technology, cultural education, news and broadcast, tourism, sports and health, and welfare.
Ms Lee currently holds other positions within the UK Chinese community and in China:
- Chief Legal Advisor to the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in UK
- Overseas Director for the Chinese Overseas Exchange Association - Fourth General Assembly
- UK Representative and Member of the Eleventh National Committee of Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference
- Legal Advisor to the All China Federation of Returned Overseas Chinese
- Associate of Beijing Overseas Chamber of Commerce
- Key Co-ordinator for the Chinese in Britain All Party Parliamentary Group
- Legal Advisor to UK Confederation of Chinese Association
- Founder and Hon. President of North London Chinese Association
- Founder and Chair of the BC Project
